Event Details

This day dedicated to thank and pray for our first responders. These include Police Officers, Sherriff Deputies, State Patrol Troopers, Fire Fighters, EMS and Paramedics, dispatchers and other essential staff. On September 11, 2019, at 7:30 p.m., the North Platte Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a “Blue Mass” at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, 415 North Chestnut Street in North Platte. The first Blue Mass was celebrated on September 29, 1934, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, DC. Since 1934, Blue Masses are celebrated annually in many American cities. Following the events of 9/11, Blue Masses are celebrated in cities from coast to coast to honor the many first responders who gave their lives so that others might live. It is estimated that 25,000 people were saved on 9/11 because of their courage. Though usually held in a Catholic church, the Mass is generally considered ecumenical or non-denominational. The public is encouraged to participate in the Blue Mass.
