Look to the Star is about following Mary’s example in order to overcome obstacles common to women (e.g. the antidote to self-comparison is humility, the antidote to busyness is simplicity, the antidote to past wounds is vulnerability, etc.) St. Bernard of Clairvaux wrote a beautiful homily on Our Lady Star of the Sea, “If you are tossed by the waves of pride or ambition, detraction or envy, look to the star, call upon Mary. If anger or avarice or the desires of the flesh dash against the ship of your soul, turn your eyes to Mary.” He goes on in that fashion, urging us to look to Mary as a means of ridding ourselves of sin.
