Jim Carroll | Executive Director
Jim oversees the day-to-day operations of the network. Before joining Spirit Catholic Radio in 2002, he was an assistant vice president at Norwest Bank, director at Applied Communications, Inc. and vice president at First Data Resources. He is a graduate from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and served 11 years in the U.S. Naval Reserve Seabees. He and his wife, Karol, have five children and are members of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Omaha. Jim has served on the parish council, is an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, sponsor for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program, Christians Encounter Christ retreat participant and member of the Knights of Columbus. He is also a member of Serra Club of Omaha, board member for Catholic Professional & Business Club and chapter coordinator for Legatus of Omaha. Jim has served on the boards of the Catholic Radio Association and Mission Advancement Council for the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University in Omaha. His favorite saints are St. James, St. Patrick, St. Therese the Little Flower, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas Aquinas and has a special devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. His favorite programs are Catholic Answers Live and Spirit Mornings.
Bernie Schaefer | Vice President of Development
Bernie Schaefer, who joined the Spirit Catholic Radio family in 2008, directs the Development aims of the Network. He works with thousands of donors across the listening area to advance our efforts through the donors’ gifts of time, talent and treasure. You'll also often hear Bernie's voice during broadcasts of some of our local high school football and basketball games. Before coming to the radio station, Bernie served the church for 20 years through Catholic higher education at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa, St. Louis University and Creighton University in Omaha. His tenure at those institutions involved extensive work in major gift fund raising, marketing/PR, board management, social outreach and ministry. Bernie and his wife, Nikki, are members of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in Omaha, and have six children. Both are active in parish and church organizations, including couples ministry, prayer groups, choir and apologetics. Bernie also serves on the development committee for Essential Pregnancy Services and is a board member for Creighton University's Magis program. Inspired by the works of St. Ignatius, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Francis Xavier and St. Joseph the Worker, Bernie's favorite prayer is the “Memorare.”
Angela Copenhaver | Lincoln Development Director
Angela Copenhaver joined the Spirit Catholic Radio family in 2014. She is responsible for development within the Lincoln Diocese and works directly with donors to progress the mission of evangelization. She and her husband, Lowell, joined the Catholic Church in 2012, and are members of North American Martyrs Parish in Lincoln. They have two adult children and five grandchildren. Angela is a graduate of Doane College in Lincoln, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations and is currently completing a Masters in Counseling. She actively participates as an Endow facilitator, is a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Woman of Grace, and chairs the annual spaghetti feed for her parish bazaar. Her favorite saints are our Mary and St. Teresa of Avila.
Wayne Crome | Central Nebraska Development Director
I am very excited to join the Spirit Catholic Radio family as the development director for Central/West Nebraska. My wife Leah and I had been long-time listeners of the station when we lived in York and were happy to find Spirit Catholic Radio move across the state as we also moved west. My wife and I are the parents of eight (soon to be nine) children and are members of Sacred Heart Parish in Greeley, Neb. I served several years in law enforcement until becoming a field agent with Knights of Columbus Insurance in 2009. I am a convert to the Catholic faith since Easter 2006. I serve on my parish council and also parish vocations committee as well as the Grand Island Vocations Committee. I lead a men’s group at Sacred Heart every Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. (you’re welcome to join us). My hobbies include woodworking and any outdoor activity. I look forward to working with Scott Bonham and meeting as many people as I can over the coming months. Please stop by the studios any time to say hello and share your thoughts at 828 N. Mary Beth Jorgensen | Director of Underwriting
Mary Beth Jorgensen works with the businesses and organizations that want to sponsor programming on the Spirit Catholic Radio Network since 2002. Her radio career began in a small market outside Nebraska and she returned to Omaha – her hometown – after learning the industry from the ground up. Her commercial radio background includes Triathlon & Journal Broadcast Groups (KXKT “The Kat” and KKCD “CD105”). Mary attended Holy Name School, Marian High School and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She and her husband, Jeff, are members of St. Patrick Parish in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She enjoys cooking and baking and trying new recipes. Her favorite religious songs are “How Great Thou Art” and Matt Maher’s “On My Way.”
Bruce McGregor | Program Director
As program director since 2004, Bruce McGregor oversees the day-to-day operations of the programming of the radio station – what you hear on the radio – and is co-host of Spirit Mornings. He said he believes God prepared him to serve in this ministry by providing him with a 30-year career in broadcasting and a love for Christ and the church. For more than 14 years, Bruce was the program director and afternoon drive air talent on Z-92 and CD105 radio stations in Omaha. He also was program director at WHTQ in Orlando and WZBA in Baltimore. Bruce and his wife, Kris, have three children and are members of St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in Omaha. He’s a member of the Knights of Columbus, an extraordinary minister of holy Communion and lector, and has sponsored candidates in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and Christians Encounter Christ. A golf enthusiast, Bruce’s favorite saints are Dominic and the Blessed Virgin Mary. His favorite prayer is the “Our Father.”
Kelly Miller | Marketing Director
Kelly Miller, who joined the Spirit Catholic Radio network in 2012, specializes in strategic public relations planning and implementation, communications writing and social media strategy. Her goal at Spirit Catholic Radio is to support the organization's mission of evangelization through the use of effective public relations and marketing tactics to bring Christ to people and people to Christ. She majored in journalism and public relations and minored in political science at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She is currently working on her master's degree. Her professional experience includes work as the public relations manager for a regional health system; marketing director for the Hastings Family YMCA in Hastings; and public relations associate for Swanson Russell in Omaha, where she worked for a variety of clients in the agriculture and healthcare industries. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and Public Relations Society of America-Nebraska. A native of rural, central Nebraska, she and her husband, Scott, moved to Omaha in 2010 where they attend mass at St. James. In 2014 Kelly and Scott welcomed their first child, Jude, to their family. She enjoys cooking, traveling and spending time with friends and family. Her favorite prayer is the “Prayer of St. Francis.”
Jen Brown | Spirit Mornings Co-Host
Jen Brown has been a fixture in local radio for more than 20 years, and she joined the Spirit Catholic Radio team in June 2013 as co-host of Spirit Mornings. A member of Corpus Christi Tri-Parish in Council Bluffs, she attended St. Albert Schools in Council Bluffs and the College of Saint Mary in Omaha. She loves to spend time with her teenage son, and enjoys volunteering at his school and other charitable and parish organization. Her favorite saint is St. Rebecca, the patron of sick people and loss of parents, and one of her favorite prayers is “Lord, make me a means of your peace.”
Matt Willkom | Program Manager/Producer
Matt Willkom joined Spirit Catholic Radio in May 2012. In addition to being co-host and producer of the Spirit Mornings, he produces other programs and assists the network with overall imaging as well as shapes content for individual stations and markets. Matt holds a B.A. in philosophy and Catholic studies with a communications minor from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., and completed a master’s studies at the Ave Maria University Institute for Pastoral Theology. He brings rich professional experience in Catholic radio having worked for Vatican Radio’s “Jubilaeum” channel; Relevant Radio Network in Minneapolis; and producing and contributing to Lino at Large on Sirius XM satellite radio. Matt also portrayed Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos in the 2006 film “Seelos: Tireless Intercessor,” seen on EWTN. He, his wife, Elizabeth, and their three children enjoy raising chickens and playing make-believe. His favorite prayer is from the Byzantine Melkite Divine Liturgy (after Communion): “We have seen the true light. We have received the heavenly Spirit. We have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, who has saved us.”
Irene Lempke | Mission Advancement Manager
Irene began working at Spirit Catholic Radio part time in 2007 with program scheduling software. But over the past several years, her responsibilities at the network have grown to include traffic manager (scheduling underwriter spots heard on air, invoicing, assisting Mary Jorgensen), development assistant, and advancement coordinator (helps to coordinate and plan all dinners, lunches, mailers, and events done on behalf of the station and helps coordinate volunteers for events and mailers). A graduate of V.J. and Angela Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, she attended Creighton University for one year before transferring to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She likes to travel, spend time with her nieces and nephew, hang out with her friends, fishing and exercising. Favorite Song: Amazing Grace or Lord, I Need You by Matt Maher. Favorite Scripture: John 3:16. Favorite Saints: Mother Mary & St. Michael.
Mark Voris | Chief Engineer
As chief engineer of the radio station since 2009, Mark Voris is responsible for the physical building and maintenance of all transmitter sites for KVSS, KOLB, KJWM, KFJS,K207BY and any future sites that are built. He also builds and maintains the studios in Omaha as well as remote studios in Lincoln, Grand Island and any future remote studios that are built, and maintains logs and other paper work and signal measurements and makes sure our stations are compliant with FCC rules and regulations. He has been in broadcasting for many years, starting out in television and moving on to radio. Born and raised in North Platte, he and his family – wife, Janet, and two sons – moved to Cozad, where Mark worked as an engineer with the Nebraska Rural Radio Association’s stations KRVN, KNEB and KTIC. Jonathan Teixeira | Editor - Benevore
Jonathan Teixiera, who joined Spirit Catholic Radio in 2016, runs Benevore.net - our web initiative for the millennial generation/young adults (18-or-so to 30-something). Benevore - online at Benevore.net - not only publishes amazing original content, but also curates the best Catholic stuff online, presenting it with an outline of main ideas and supplemental information from other sources. Jonathan graduated from SUNY Geneseo in 2008 with a degree in Elementary Education and English. His family had computers in the house before the internet existed and he’s created websites since 1999. Before joining the Spirit Catholic Radio Family, Jonathan (along with his wife Amanda) was a missionary with The Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) for eight and a half years. He served as an on-campus missionary at the University of Vermont, New York University (NYU) and the University of Illinois - Champaign-Urbana. He launched FOCUS’ Digital Campus, a missionary team that uses internet technology to offer evangelization coaching to students on campuses without FOCUS missionaries. Jonathan spent his last two and a half years at FOCUS running their social media operations and special web projects. Jonathan and his wife Amanda (an Omaha native) moved to Omaha in 2016 and are members of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Gretna. They have two daughters, Josie and Charlotte, and one dog, Wrigley. Jonathan is a life-long Cubs fan whose hobbies include reading, solving crossword puzzles, tinkering with DIY/hobby electronics, playing his ukuele, playing board games and running. Some of his favorite saints are Saints Jospeh the Worker, Isidore of Seville, Francis de Sales, Andre Bessette and Paul Miki.
Brenna Prem | Outreach Associate - Omaha
Brenna Prem joined Spirit Catholic Radio in 2016 as an outreach associate for the Omaha area. She is responsible for networking with various apostolates and ministries in the area, will work to advance the network's new Encounter Jesus initiative, and manages the weekly events committee meeting. Brenna is happy to serve the New Evangelization through her work at Spirit Catholic Radio. Brenna attended Benedictine College where she was highly involved in campus life from being an ambassador to leading retreats. It was at Benedictine where she discovered her love for evangelization--which is Spirit Catholic Radio's mission! Brenna loves "all things Catholic" and her favorite devotion is the Marian Consecration by Saint Louis de Montfort. She is often fostering a new devotion to a particular saint, but her standby favorites include Saint Rita and Saint John Paul II (Honorable mentions: St. Faustina & St. Don Bosco & St. Joseph & so many more!). In her spare time, she enjoys body combat classes or baking decadent desserts. Her favorite quote: “It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you […]”.
Ka rol Carroll | Development Analyst
Karol works as a development associate since 2004. She and her husband Jim, have been listeners since KVSS came on the air back in 1999. She started working at the station as a volunteer. Later, her years of working as an analyst in the secular world would be put to use. She enjoys getting to meet the listeners at different events. Some of her favorite prayers include the Morning Offering, Fatima Prayer, Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great, and the Rosary.
Mary Lempke | Administrative Assistant
Mary Lempke, a member of St. Patrick Parish in Gretna, is the station receptionist and administrative assistant to Jim Carroll, executive director. She began her career at Spirit Catholic Radio as a Care-a-thon volunteer in 2003 and became a staff member in 2007. Mary, who graduated from Stewarts School of Cosmetology, enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, doing puzzles and watching football. Her favorite religious song is “Ave Maria” because her grandfather used to sing it in Italian when she was a child. Her favorite quote is from St. Francis of Assisi: “Whatever persons are worth in the sight of God, that they are and no more.”
Sandy Smith | Production Associate
As production manager, Sandy makes sure all underwriting spots get played on air. She came to Spirit Catholic Radio in 2012 after a long career in secular radio. Sandy enjoys singing and playing the piano and guitar. She and her husband, Tyler, have three grown children – Sean, Shannon and Shane – and one grandchild, Caleb. Her favorite Scripture verse is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Ann Eatherton | Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator
Ann collaborates with the schools, parishes, ministries and apostolates to create an awareness of Spirit Catholic Radio and facilitates our presence at their activities and at other external secular events throughout the listening area since 2013. She also coordinates the ongoing recruitment and placement of volunteers. Ann majored in Organizational Communication at Creighton University. Previously, Ann worked exclusively in the public sector as a human resources technician for local government. Her responsibilities included creating job descriptions and working closely with managers to develop and administer selection processes to fill vacancies according to code and contract provisions. Ann is a member of Corpus Christi Parish in Council Bluffs. Her hobbies include cooking, entertaining at home, flower gardening and taking piano lessons. Her favorite prayers are the Memorare and the Litany of Humility. Her favorite scripture verse is Philippians 4:4-9.
