National Healthcare Decisions Day
April 16 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pmFree
National Healthcare Decisions Day strives to provide much-needed information to the public, reduce the number of tragedies that occur when a patient’s wishes are unknown, and improve the ability of healthcare facilities and providers to offer informed and thoughtful guidance about advance healthcare planning to their patients. The goal of this nationwide initiative is to ensure that all adults with decision-making capacity in America have both the information and the opportunity to communicate and document their future healthcare decisions. Some common misunderstandings are 1) a living will and healthcare power of attorney are the same; 2) advance directives are only used for limiting care; 3) a lawyer is needed to draft an advance directive and/or that it is hard to do; and 4) severe illness or a catastrophic injury will never happen to them. On this day, all across the country, health care facilities, health care professionals, chaplains, the legal community, and others will be participating in a collective effort to highlight the importance of making advance healthcare decisions and to provide tools for making these decisions. New Cassel has assembled a panel of experts to educate and inform everyone attending this very important event. Join us and representatives from Heritage Financial, Carlson Burnett Elder Law, Boyum Law Firm, Olney & Associates, John A. Gentleman, New Cassel, The New Cassel Foundation, Sister Kathleen Kluthe of Serenity Hospice and Father Mike Gutgsell of St. Joseph Parish in Springfield.
