Tools for Living in Community: The Rule of Benedict

May 31 – June 5, 2015

This retreat is for religious sisters in active ministry. The entire Rule of Benedict is written for those who wish to live in community under a rule and an abbot. This retreat will first take an overview of the Rule of Benedict. This will, hopefully, give the big picture of community living. Then with the help of Jane Tomaine, St. Benedict’s Toolbox, and other commentators, the retreat will focus on specific chapters of the rule. The goal of the retreat is to give the retreatants some personal tools for living together in community with Jesus Christ as its capstone. à

Father Thomas A. Hillenbrand, OSB, STL, a former monk of Blue Cloud Abbey, SD, which closed in Aug. of 2012, has transferred his stability to Christ the King Priory in Schuyler. In his over 50 years as a Benedictine monk, he has received his education and degrees from San Anselmo College in Rome and from Notre Dame University. After that he served as novice master, Pastor on an Indian reservation, Chaplain at Mt. Marty College, Prior in Guatemala, and then Abbot at Blue Cloud for 16 years.
